Your Weekend Roundup: August 23 – 25, 2019
There is definitely no shortage of family-friendly activities in San Francisco this weekend! From Blues by the Bay to a Chinatown Street Fair to sand sculpture competition, we promise everyone in your family won’t get bored.
Friday: August 23rd
6:00PM – 8:00PM @Courthouse Square
Summer is coming to an end and sadly, that means so are summer outdoor concerts. However, there are still two more chances to catch a Friday night show at Courthouse Square! This Friday enjoy Neon Velvet, they describe themselves as a “Modern Rock Dance Party.”
6:30PM – 8:00PM @Gabrielson Park, Sausalito
If your family likes to snap your fingers and sway to the beat of jazz, Jazz and Blues by the Bay is the outdoor concert for you and this is the last week to stop by and check it out. This week you can enjoy blues band, Eugene Huggins and Friends for free!
Saturday: August 24th
10:00AM – 1:00PM @Chabot Space and Science Center
Project Create allows kids to explore, experiment, build and take apart a host of different things. Each Friday, the Chabot Space and Science Center opens its doors to families and hosts different tinkering events to help expand the minds and creativity of kids.
10:00AM – 5:00PM @Gourmet Ghetto
Nothing really screams “family-friendly” more than a chocolate and chalk festival. Head over to Gourmet Ghetto to take over the sidewalks with chalk drawings. You can BYOC (Bring Your Own Chalk) or opt to buy some at the event. They are also judging the drawings and the winners will receive cash prizes.
10:00AM – 5:30PM @Oakland Chinatown
If you are craving some delicious, unique Asian food, head over to the Chinatown Streetfair in Oakland this weekend. The fair has more than 150 booths with food, products, and services. They will also have live music and a special Kids Zone with rides, activities and arts and crafts!
2:00PM – 4:30PM @Angel Island Cantina
Each Saturday from June through October, Angel Island Cantina joins with Lagunitas Brewing Company to host Angel Island Live! The series of live music performances are completely free and a great time to chill out with your family.
Sunday: August 25th
8:00AM – 8:00PM @Muir Woods
Happy Birthday to the National Park Service! To celebrate, a variety of National Parks are opening their gates for free this Sunday! Check out our link in order to see participating California parks and hit the trails!
9:00AM – 3:30PM @Drakes Beach
Point Reyes National Seashore’s Annual Sand Sculpture competition is the perfect family bonding activity even if you aren’t crowned a winner. There are 4 categories including Children (fourteen years of age and under), Families, Adult Individuals, and Adult Groups. You can also stop by just to see the finished masterpieces!
10:00AM @Stinson Beach
Spend your Sunday morning giving back and join Marin County Parks with a beach cleanup at Stinson Beach. Volunteers ages 5 and up will be able to participate and help keep California’s beaches beautiful.
12:30PM – 2:30PM @Marin County Mart
