The summer months are dwindling but that doesn’t mean the summer fun has to end quite yet. We have rounded up the best kid-friendly activities in Kansas City this August so you can make the most of what summer you have left.
Kansas City Zoo

Not many activities scream summer like a family trip to the zoo. The 202-acre Kansas City Zoo goes above and beyond typical zoo expectations with a sea lion show, zookeeper chats, elephant painting demonstrations, a safari boat ride and more.
Reflecting Motion Public Days

Time: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Head over to Union Station’s Haverty Family Yards to get a free look at “Reflecting Motion,” the latest Skynet artwork by the internationally-recognized Patrick Shearn. The captivating sculpture stands at 12,000 square feet and waves in the wind constantly taking on new forms.
Tails on the Trails Pet Festival

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10
Whether you have a family dog or are just a family of canine lovers, this is a day you won’t want to miss. You’ll be able to browse pet vendors’ booths, enjoy a pet talent show, view dog demonstrations, and if you do have a 4 legged friend, let them swim in the Ad Astra Pool.
Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad

Time: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sundays
All aboard! Take a ride on the Kansas City Northern Miniature Railroad in Frank Vaydik Park. The railroad operates on a half-mile oval track and for 75 cents a ride, you might as well go around a few times!
Fridays in the Park

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Fridays
Get outside and enjoy the warm weather every Friday afternoon in Macken Park! Each week, North Kansas City puts on an outdoor concert for the community — best of all, the whole event is free!
Sea Life Aquarium

Time: Dates and Times Vary
Spend the day underwater at the Sea Life Aquarium! Between the interactive touch pool, the sea dragon exhibit, the stingray bay, the ocean tunnel, and the doodle reef, there is sure to be something entertaining for everyone in your family.
Tales for Tiny Tykes

Time: 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Thursdays
Every Thursday morning excite your little ones with books and news friends at the Kansas City public library free storytime. (The library also has free healthy snacks for kids at 3:30 p.m. every day!)
Scavenger Saturday

Time: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17
Hone your family’s detective skills at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. Every third Saturday of the month Kemper hosts Scavenger Saturday for families and has them follow clues to discover all the museum has to offer. At the end, children are given a take-home, art kit.
Wonderscope Obstacle Course

Time: 3:00 p.m. on Fridays
Every Friday afternoon Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City has a different obstacle course for children to practice their physical skills, make new friends, and learn sportsmanship!
Monster Moutain Climbing

Time: Dates and Times Vary
Get adventurous with a first-time climb at Monster Mountain. The rock gym has 16 different top rope areas, plenty of bouldering space, 2 caves, and much more. During your first session, you will get 30 minutes of bouldering below the 10ft line and one roped climb with a staff belayer.
